Mar del Plata, Argentina – January 10, 2024 – Renowned South African house producer Black Coffee is currently undergoing medical treatment after a harrowing travel accident that occurred during a flight en route to his scheduled show in Mar del Plata, Argentina. The incident, which unfolded on January 10th, resulted in unforeseen complications and left the GRAMMY-winning DJ and producer with several injuries, as reported by his team.

A statement was posted on Black Coffee‘s official social media pages today, confirming the incident and his medical condition. The message read, “Black Coffee was involved in a severe travel accident on a flight en route to his scheduled show in Mar del Plata. The incident resulted in unforeseen complications and left him with some injuries. We can confirm he is receiving the best possible medical attention and is surrounded by a supportive family and team.”

Black Coffee, born as Nkosinathi Innocent Sizwe Maphumulo, had been scheduled to perform at the nightclub Mute in Mar del Plata, a coastal city in the Buenos Aires province of Argentina. However, this unfortunate incident has put his performance in jeopardy.

The DJ and producer had a series of upcoming performances, including Day Zero in Tulum, Mexico, scheduled for Friday, January 12, and a show in Istanbul alongside Pete Tong on January 13 this week.

Black Coffee’s team has emphasized that he is currently receiving the “best possible” medical care and remains “optimistic” about his recovery. They kindly request understanding and patience from both the media and his fans to respect his privacy during this challenging time.

Despite the obstacles he faces, the statement concludes with the assurance that Black Coffee is on the path to recovery and eagerly anticipates returning to his fans soon.

Black Coffee’s remarkable talents were celebrated when he clinched the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Music in 2022 for his album “Subconsciously.” This groundbreaking achievement made him the first South African artist to attain this prestigious honor. His headlining performance at Madison Square Garden in October showcased the profound impact of his music.

In 2022, when speaking about “Subconsciously,” Black Coffee expressed his aspiration to create an album that transcended boundaries and appealed to a diverse audience, fitting seamlessly into various moments of life. His music aims to be accessible not only in the club but also during everyday activities and challenging times, remaining faithful to his roots while exploring a wide array of sounds and styles. It’s this ability to push boundaries that ultimately defines his unique and enduring appeal.

As the music world awaits updates on Black Coffee’s condition and recovery, fans and industry professionals alike are sending their thoughts and wishes for a swift and complete recovery to this iconic artist.
