Zenith Debuts Carl Cox Watch Collaboration, A Must-Have for Music Enthusiasts

In a remarkable fusion of Swiss watchmaking and the pulsing beats of electronic music, Zenith collaborates once more with the iconic English DJ, Carl Cox. The renowned Swiss watchmaker, globally celebrated for its El Primero chronograph, now showcases a limited edition of the Defy Extreme, influenced by Carl Cox’s musical legacy.

This recent creation, marking their second collaboration, distinguishes itself from the usual Defy Extreme line. Its design eloquently integrates an ageless two-tone case made of sandblasted steel and yellow gold. The dial is meticulously detailed, echoing the rhythm of Carl Cox’s DJing world.

The Defy Extreme itself represents a magnified, adventurous evolution of Zenith’s classic Defy 21. Equipped with the capability to measure time up to an accuracy of 1/100th of a second, this watch also comes with a hardier case, characterized by a distinctive 12-sided bezel. Its water resistance has also been amped up to a remarkable 200 meters.

While the standard Extreme often resonates with a contemporary, monochromatic theme, the Defy Extreme Carl Cox edition contrasts with its muted sandblasted steel appearance, harmonized with a golden bezel, lending a vintage luxury vibe.

The dial’s aesthetic is where Carl Cox’s influence is most apparent. The minute track, with its dotted patterns, is reminiscent of a vinyl record’s stroboscopic effect, capturing the essence of vintage music. Further enhancing this theme, the triad of registers mirrors the look of a vinyl disc. Carl Cox’s emblem is subtly infused at nine o’clock, maintaining the dial’s equilibrium. A power-reserve indicator at the top reflects Carl Cox’s musical journey, showcasing labels of “on” and “off”.

The addition of gold-plated hands and markers lends a vibrant contrast to the black dial, adding a dash of opulence.

However, the Defy Extreme Carl Cox is not just about looks. Nestled inside is the El Primero 9004 movement, effectively combining a standard 5 Hz movement for timekeeping with an unparalleled 50 Hz movement for its chronograph function. The 50 Hz movement’s prowess lies in its ability to track time to an astounding 1/100th of a second.
