When talking to R3hab, the first thing you notice is the passion he has for what he does, which is good because there is no way a man can release over 30 original tracks and remixes, host a weekly radio show, and perform at 250 shows a year without being fully committed with his mind,
body, and soul. R3hab is not a story of quantity over quality either. Every live show is filled with an overabundance of energy and excitement that leaves his crowds wanting more. His production value and musical aptitude speak for itself; Having collaborated with the likes of Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Calvin Harris, Lil’ Wayne, Ne-Yo, Pitbull, Sean Paul, Dada Life, Snoop Dogg, LMFAO and Bruno Mars to name a few. It feels R3hab has a permanent home on the Beatport top 100, at times having 4-5 singles on the chart at once. And if his recent releases are any indication, we don’t see him going anywhere (but up).
Q: You’ve been all over the place, at 200-250 shows a year right now;
You’ve also released 30 original tracks and remixes, where do you find
time to get all of this done?
A: In the hotel rooms and airplanes.
Q: Now, you have a very unique sound, Dutch-house but with a definite
feel all on its own. You have a high energy, always jumping up and
down, making everyone else jump up and down… Where does the
energy come from?
A: From the love, the good vibes, the music. I love doing it. I don’t know, it’s just music that I love. It’s not really thought of, it’s just natural.
Q: How did you get started making music?
A: I always loved music as a teenager and then you download a program
illegally, start playing around and you suck really hard, then you get a little better.
Q: What would you say to any aspiring artists that are trying to get to
the place where you are?
A: This sounds really cheesy, but just work hard. Practice makes perfect. If you do it, just practice in your room. We can do so many things right now on a computer, you don’t need a lot. Like, people say, “Oh I don’t have the opportunity,” but that’s not true. I mean, Logic is like $150.00.
Q: That leads perfectly into my next question! You give back to the fans
so much on Soundcloud, you do a weekly radio show, you’re very
active on Twitter and Facebook; What do the fans give back to you?
A: They respond on things, it’s the interaction. Some artists sometimes forget that the fans made them; the artists don’t make the fans.
Q: Do you have anything to say to your fans?
A: I have a new track coming up, a really nice one. And thanks for supporting and have a good time. It’s all about positivity, that’s my New Year resolution: positive music, good times.
