From Legal Briefs to Trance Beats: The Inspiring Journey of Taylor Torrence

Taylor Torrence, a rising star in the world of trance, has been making waves in the electronic music scene with his captivating music and inspiring journey. From trading in his legal career to crafting melodic masterpieces, Taylor Torrence has proven that following one’s passion can lead to incredible success and fulfillment.

A Legal Mind on the Dance Floor: While many know Taylor Torrence for his mesmerizing trance tracks, few might know his unconventional path to becoming a renowned producer and DJ. Taylor began his journey in Fresno, California, where he fell in love with trance music at 15, thanks to Armin van Buuren’s “A State Of Trance” compilations. He quickly ventured into DJing and music production, which became his creative outlet during his formative years.

The Unexpected Legal Detour: Despite his growing passion for music, Taylor’s journey took an unexpected turn when he was accepted into an Ivy League law school on the East Coast. He embraced the rigorous legal education and embarked on a career as an attorney in New York City. Music was relegated to the back burner as he navigated the demands of his legal profession.

However, this hiatus from music proved to be a blessing in disguise. In 2018, Taylor rediscovered his love for trance music, prompting him to return to Los Angeles and reignite his music production endeavors. His relentless work ethic, cultivated through years of legal studies, proved invaluable as he pursued his musical dreams again.

By October 2019, Taylor Torrence delivered his debut single, “Nayru,” in collaboration with the independent progressive label Nanostate Music. It quickly gained traction, reaching #3 on Beatport’s Trance Top 100 Releases chart. Momentum continued to build with subsequent releases, culminating in the February 2020 release of “If We Say Goodbye” featuring Natalie Major. This track became a sensation, receiving support from iconic figures in the industry, including Armin van Buuren and Tritonal’s Enhanced Music label.

Dreams Turned Reality: EDC Las Vegas and Dreamstate SoCal: One of Taylor’s most memorable moments was playing at EDC Las Vegas, fulfilling a long-standing dream. This achievement validated his journey and motivated him to pursue his musical ambitions. His next big gig on the horizon was Dreamstate SoCal, a festival he holds dear due to its incredible vibes and trance community. Taylor Torrence promised fans an exciting set, blending his signature sound with transitioning toward techier, moodier vibes.

Taylor Torrence draws inspiration from fellow artists and peers in the trance community. He mentioned being blown away by performances from Alpha 9 and Genix and how witnessing live trance sets provides fresh perspectives for his studio work. He also expressed excitement about seeing friends and colleagues like Jorza, SCHALA, Farius, and John O’Callaghan perform at Dreamstate SoCal.

A defining aspect of Taylor Torrence’s music is his collaboration with vocalists like Ava Silver and Julia Ross. He shared how working with great vocals inspires and brings out his creative best. While he enjoys producing vocal tracks, he also aims to strike a balance by creating instrumental pieces to diversify his sets.

Dream Remixes and Collaborations: Taylor Torrence’s dreams extend beyond his music. He wanted to remix classic vocal trance tunes by artists like Audrey Gallagher, Leah, and Sara Howells. He also mentioned his interest in seeing how producers like Kaimo K or Monrroe would reimagine his tracks. This willingness to explore diverse musical directions reflects Taylor’s openness to creative experimentation.

The Importance of Workflow and Persistence: Taylor’s dedication to his craft is evident in his music and efforts to help fellow producers. He emphasized the significance of workflow, organization, and efficiency in the studio, addressing the common struggle many novice producers face. He highlighted the concept of “the Dip,” explaining how it challenges aspiring producers to persevere and grow in the face of initial confidence dips.

Underrated Talents and Future Plans: Taylor Torrence believes in recognizing and supporting underrated talents in the industry. He mentioned Formula None, a psytrance producer from Denver, as someone poised for an exceptional 2023. Taylor’s goals for the near future include solidifying his new sound, focusing on health and fitness, and, importantly, taking a vacation with his wife, who has supported him tirelessly throughout his musical journey.

As Taylor Torrence continues to evolve as an artist and inspire others with his music and determination, it’s clear that his journey is far from over. With a passion for the craft and an unwavering commitment to his dreams, he stands as a testament to the power of following one’s heart and pursuing one’s true calling, no matter the path one starts on.
