Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter has composed the original soundtrack of the upcoming film ‘DAAAAAALÍ.’ This surreal biopic delves into the life of the renowned Spanish artist Salvador Dalí. The exciting revelation came via Ed Banger Records’ Instagram account on January 9th.

Directed by Quentin Dupieux, also known as Mr. Oizo, ‘DAAAAAALÍ’ is poised to make its grand debut on February 7th, 2024. This film marks Dupieux’s twelfth feature, following his previous works such as ‘Rubber’ (2010) and the recent dark comedy ‘Yannick’ (2023). ‘DAAAAAALÍ’ pledges to be an imaginative and eccentric exploration of Dalí’s life, with multiple actors portraying the artist. The film’s original soundtrack, composed by Thomas Bangalter, will be released through Ed Banger Records next month.

Ed Banger Records, the label through which Daft Punk released their entire discography, made the thrilling announcement with the message: “Let’s kick off 2024 with something truly extraordinary! We are thrilled to welcome Thomas Bangalter to Ed Banger Records for the release of the original soundtrack of DAAAAAALÍ.”

This French comedy film, written and directed by Quentin Dupieux (DJ Mr. Oizo), unravels the story of a journalist’s encounter with the Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dalí for an unconventional “unproductive documentary project,” as described in the synopsis. ‘DAAAAAALÍ’ premiered at the Venice International Film Festival last year and received praise as a “genuine pseudo-biography” chronicling Salvador Dalí’s life.

This marks Dupieux’s twelfth feature film, following his horror-comedy ‘Rubber’ and the recent dark comedy ‘Yannick.’

Thomas Bangalter and Quentin Dupieux share a long-standing friendship, with Bangalter even making an unmasked cameo appearance in Dupieux’s 2014 film ‘Reality.’ A limited-edition two-track black 10” EP, along with a poster, is currently available for pre-order and will be released on February 7th, coinciding with the premiere of ‘DAAAAAALÍ!’ in French cinemas.

Last year, Bangalter released his debut solo project, ‘Mythologies,’ marking his first venture since the dissolution of Daft Punk in 2021. This album was initially created for the ballet of the same name, choreographed by Angelin Preljocaj, and premiered by the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine. To experience Bangalter’s post-Daft Punk musical journey, listen to ‘Mythologies.’
